Job Description
What we are looking for:
We are seeking a reliable and safety‑focused individual to support operations at the Regional Waste Management Facility by operating Council plant, equipment, and heavy machinery and preparing bulk recyclable materials for resale. This role involves operating trucks (MR licence) and forklifts, assisting with the cardboard baler, glass crushing plant, green waste mulching, and monitoring liquid pond areas, while also providing customer service at the Rediscovery Centre and directing customers at the transfer station. The successful candidate will inspect loads for contamination, recover recyclable items for resale, work independently and as part of a team under close direction, and uphold Council policies, safety standards, and the Code of Conduct, maintaining a respectful and professional approach to colleagues and the public.

Desired Skills and Experience
What you will bring:
You will bring proven experience and the demonstrated ability to competently operate a range of plant and equipment within a Regional Waste Management Facility, including conducting pre‑operational checks, minor maintenance, and safety pre‑start and shutdown procedures. You will have sound interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work independently and unsupervised while following instructions, maintaining accurate work records, and reporting issues to the Supervisor as required. You will demonstrate a strong understanding of waste management and recycling operations, with the ability to identify improvements to recycling processes, alongside a clear commitment to workplace health and safety and the physical capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Your mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, current NT MR licence, and valid TLILIL003 forklift licence (or equivalent) will enable you to perform the role safely, effectively, and in accordance with Council policies and procedures.
Must Have: Current National Criminal History Check, MR Licence and Forklift Licence.
