Job Description
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Machinery Operator to join the Regional Waste Management Facility team. In this role, you will operate a range of heavy machinery—including water trucks, compactors, front-end loaders, excavators, and hook bin trucks—to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant landfill and transfer station operations. You will take pride in managing waste streams, performing daily compaction and covering, conducting pre-operational inspections, and carrying out minor maintenance to keep equipment in top condition. A proactive and reliable team player, you will help maintain a clean, organised, and professional site, support operational improvements, and deliver outstanding service that contributes to sustainable waste management for the Alice Springs community.
What You Will Bring
You will bring hands-on expertise in operating a wide range of heavy machinery, including water trucks, tip trucks, compactors, excavators, front-end loaders, and hook bin trucks, supported by a current HR licence for the NT. You are confident in performing pre-operational checks and minor maintenance to keep equipment running safely and efficiently. Safety-conscious and physically capable, you thrive in outdoor work environments and consistently follow WHS standards. With excellent communication skills, a professional attitude, and a commitment to teamwork and service, you deliver reliable, high-quality results while maintaining respect for the public and fellow Council employees. Must Have: Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence to be able to drive in the NT, and current national police checks
