Job Description
What we are looking for:
We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Sports Officer who is passionate about building vibrant, connected communities through sport and recreation. Working within the Community Development Directorate, this pivotal role will champion strong partnerships with sporting clubs, schools, recreation organisations, and the broader community, serving as the trusted first point of contact for all sport, recreation, and open space enquiries. The successful candidate will lead the coordination of engaging community events and sport and recreation initiatives, ensuring Council’s sporting facilities are allocated fairly, strategically, and in line with established policies. With a strong customer‑focused approach, the Sports Officer will deliver professional advice, drive collaboration across diverse stakeholders, contribute to strategic planning including Council’s Sports Master Plan, and support the sustainable growth of local sport. What you will bring:
You will bring proven experience in coordinating and delivering sport and recreation projects, confidently managing the planning, implementation, and monitoring of sporting programs and community‑based initiatives to achieve meaningful outcomes. With strong judgement and initiative, you will provide accurate, timely, and practical advice to a wide range of stakeholders on policies, facilities, programs, and procedures. Your well‑developed written and interpersonal communication skills will enable you to build productive relationships and engage effectively with diverse community and sporting groups. You will demonstrate the ability to analyse information and data, prepare clear reports and recommendations, and support informed decision‑making, while balancing competing priorities both independently and as part of a collaborative team. A sound understanding of workplace health and safety underpins your approach, ensuring safe work practices at all times, complemented by a current NT C Class Driver’s Licence and a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card), or the ability to obtain one.
Must Have: Current National Criminal History Check, Working with children check, Current C-class driver’s license to be able to drive in NT
Please note:Acurrent National Police Clearance, issued within the last six (6) months, is an essential requirement for this position.
