Job Description
What we are looking for:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to support the ongoing improvement of financial systems, processes, and operational efficiency within Alice Springs Town Council. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving process improvements, enhancing system performance, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies. You will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage debtor functions and support a broad range of finance activities including Accounts Receivable, Payable, Payroll, and end-of-month and year-end processes. A collaborative approach, sound judgement, and the ability to contribute to projects, provide guidance to staff, and deliver accurate financial reporting will be essential for success in this role.

Desired Skills and Experience
What you will bring:
You will hold a tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in financial accounting, including Accounts Receivable, Payable and Payroll functions. You will have strong technical capability in bank and balance sheet reconciliations, preparation of financial statements, audit support, budgeting, fixed asset management, and month-end and year-end processes. Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial systems are essential, along with well-developed project management abilities and the capacity to prioritise competing deadlines. You will also bring excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organisation, maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgement, and contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Must Have: Current valid police clearance.
