Job Description
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a motivated Indigenous trainee who is keen to learn and build a career in waste and recycling. You will join a supportive and inclusive team at Council’s Regional Waste Management Facility in Central Australia.
This role offers hands-on training across different areas, including the Tipshop, transfer station, weighbridge, hazardous waste handling, salvaging, and green waste processing. You will help with sorting recyclable materials, yard maintenance, and general site duties.
If you are eligible, you may also have the opportunity to learn how to operate machinery such as loaders, excavators, water trucks, and hook trucks.
A positive attitude, willingness to learn, commitment to safety, and respectful behaviour are important for this role. There will also be opportunities to gain new skills and licences, such as forklift, first aid, and truck licences.

Desired Skills and Experience
What you will bring:
You will bring a positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn all aspects of waste and recycling operations, including customer service and, where licensed, operating machinery.
You will hold a current Northern Territory driver’s licence and be willing to follow instructions, work under supervision, and report any issues clearly and promptly. You will be able to complete basic paperwork, carry out pre-operational checks, and support risk assessments as required.
You will show a strong commitment to Work Health, Safety & Welfare (WHS&W) and be physically capable of working safely in an outdoor environment.
You will demonstrate respectful and professional behaviour when working with the public and fellow Council employees, and be able to work effectively in a cross-cultural team environment.
This is an Indigenous-identified position, and applicants must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
Must Have: Current National Criminal History Check.
Please note:Acurrent National Police Clearance, issued within the last six (6) months, is an essential requirement for this position.
