Job Description
Join a supportive and inclusive team committed to developing skills and creating meaningful career pathways in waste and recycling across Central Australia.
This Indigenous-identified position offers a unique opportunity for a committed individual to learn and grow within Council’s Regional Waste Management Facility. Tailored to suit existing skills and licences, the role involves hands-on training across all areas of waste and recycling operations, including the Tipshop, transfer station, weighbridge, hazardous waste handling, salvaging, and green waste conversion. With potential to operate machinery such as water trucks, hook trucks, excavators, and loaders (subject to licence eligibility), the successful candidate will also assist with stockpiling, yard maintenance, and sorting recyclable materials. A strong focus on safety, accurate record-keeping, respectful conduct, and adherence to Council policies is essential, with opportunities for further upskilling including forklift, first aid, and truck licences.
Keen and motivated to learn all aspects of waste and recycling operations, including customer service and potential machinery use (subject to licensing)
Currently holds a valid Northern Territory driver’s licence
Able to carry out pre-operational checks, complete risk assessments, and maintain accurate daily paperwork
Comfortable working under supervision, following instructions, and reporting issues clearly and promptly
Willing to develop a strong understanding of Work Health, Safety & Welfare (WHS&W) responsibilities
Physically capable and committed to working safely in an outdoor environment
Respectful and professional in interactions with the public and fellow Council employees
Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
Able to work effectively in a cross-cultural team environment
