Job Description
What we are looking for:
We are seeking a passionate and results-driven leader to oversee the daily operations of our Animal Shelter—an essential community service dedicated to the welfare and care of animals in Central Australia. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by leading a committed team, ensuring exceptional standards of animal care, and delivering a responsive, safe, and compliant service for both animals and the public. You will play a key role in driving operational excellence, building strong partnerships, mentoring and empowering staff, and enhancing service delivery through innovation and continuous improvement. If you’re a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a genuine commitment to animal welfare, this role offers the chance to lead with purpose and create real change in the community.
Applications will remain open until the successful applicant is found; however, if the position is not filled earlier, the closing date will be 14 November 2025.
Desired Skills and Experience
What you will bring:
You will bring proven leadership experience in government or statutory settings, along with a genuine passion for animal welfare and confident handling skills, including working safely with high-risk animals. With exceptional organisational abilities, you’ll thrive in managing competing priorities, coordinating diverse stakeholders, and driving smooth, efficient operations. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to engage effectively with both staff and the community, handling sensitive matters with professionalism and diplomacy. You’ll bring a clear, polished writing style with sharp attention to detail, ensuring accurate and impactful reporting. As a practical problem solver, you’ll make sound decisions under pressure and lead with confidence. Your flexibility and commitment to supporting operations, including weekends and public holidays, will make you an invaluable part of the team.
Must Have: Current National Criminal history check, Current “Working with Children” clearance (Ochre Card), Current Northern Territory C Class driver’s licence.
Please note: A current National Police Clearance, issued within the last six (6) months, is an essential requirement for this position. Applicants must obtain this at their own expense, as reimbursement will not be provided.
