Job Description
What We Are Looking For:
We are seeking a committed and detail-focused Work Health & Safety professional to support the implementation of Council’s WHS strategies and contribute to a safe and positive workplace culture. In this role, you will assist the WHS Manager in maintaining compliance with WHS legislation, policies and procedures, oversee safety registers and records, support incident reporting and investigations, and assist with risk assessments and corrective actions. You will work collaboratively with managers, supervisors and staff to strengthen safety practices, coordinate WHS committee activities and training, and ensure timely completion of safety actions. This position also requires adherence to workplace safety procedures, correct use of PPE, prompt reporting of hazards and incidents, and general WHS administrative support. The ideal candidate will be organised, proactive and confident engaging with employees at all levels, bringing strong communication skills, a solution-focused mindset, and a genuine commitment to fostering a safe and accountable work environment across Council.

What You Will Bring:
You will bring a genuine passion for creating a safe and supportive workplace, leading safety initiatives that build a strong WHS culture across our organisation. With a solid understanding of safety principles, policies, and legislation, you will confidently provide guidance and support to leaders and staff, while continuing to grow your WHS knowledge. You are results-driven, organised, and committed to seeing tasks through, including supporting workers’ compensation and injury management processes. You will conduct workplace inspections, maintain accurate documentation, and prepare clear reports with ease. Strong communication and interpersonal skills will help you build positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, while maintaining confidentiality and working both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends ensures you can support our workforce when needed.
Must have: Current National Criminal History check (less than 6 months old), Certificate III or IV in in Safety, Business Administration, or related discipline and/or experience relevant to the position, Current Provide First Aid and CPR (minimum), Current Working with Children Clearance (WWC/NT Ochre Card), Current NT Drivers License.
