Job Description

The opportunity 

We are seeking a Playground Team Reactive Team Member who will undertake a range of horticultural activities specifically related to Council’s playgrounds and open spaces, assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment in accordance with Australian standards, and perform general horticultural duties across Council parks, ovals, and associated facilities.

Your responsibilities include assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of Council equipment in line with Australian standards (such as paving, security fencing, graffiti removal, and laying top covers), undertaking a range of horticultural activities including mowing, spraying, slashing, topdressing, scarifying, fertilising, and aerating turfed areas, and carrying out emergency maintenance works, labouring duties, and basic administrative and reporting tasks.

Desired Skills and Experience

What we would like you to bring to the team

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain, repair and assist with the upkeep of recreational equipment, within the parks and gardens of Alice Springs to Australian standards.
  • Ability to undertake a range of horticultural activities particularly mowing, spraying, slashing,top-dressing, scarifying, fertilizing and aerating turfed areas.
  • Competent in the safe operation and basic maintenance of a broad range of plant and equipment related to the role. Displays sufficient mechanical aptitude to identify and resolve issues minimising downtime and ensuring safe operation.
  • Good work ethic capable of working unsupervised, following instructions and procedures including keeping accurate daily work records and reporting any issues to Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ability to identify, remove and eradicate weeds, pests and diseases through the use of chemicals.
  • Ability to safely do physical work, outdoors in all weather. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the WHS requirements of the position.
  • Current LR Class Licence to be able to drive in the Northern Territory.
